Fighting Redemption By Kate McCarthy

Fighting Redemption - Kate McCarthy

Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

I've just finished this and it feels like all my emotions have been put through the wringer and spat out, this book will make you laugh, cry, you'll feel moments of anger you name it, you will feel it!!

Saying I loved this book is an understatement, I devoured it, it consumed me!!

Ryan's always dreamt of being a soldier just like his grandfather, he'd been ten years old when it had taken root in his head, even at that age his dream of being a soldier had already taken hold in his soul.

Life at home for Ryan was a nightmare, his dad was an asshole and a drunk, becoming a soldier would be Ryan's escape plan and something he had to focus on..

That was until Fin stumbled into his life and he nearly lost focus of that goal..A strong bond of friendship forms between Ryan, Finlay and her brother Jake is breathtakingly beautiful, they became fast friends..

Ryan was sixteen when he realized the tightening in his chest when he looked at Fin and that one simple word echoed in his head when he thought of her as "Mine" but that's where he kept on putting up barriers, he couldn't feel that way, Ryan had to keep his main focus on fighting his way out of town..

How could he do that if Fin owned his heart?

By eighteen Ryan ached constantly with the need to touch her, consume her, make her his..

What do you care about he asked her one night, "I want to be a scientist."

"What about you Ryan, what do you care about?"

"Being in the army, being a soldier, I want to get out, I need to get out, I can't live at that place for much longer, I want to be SAS", he replied.

"Your leaving", she choked out.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"When?"

"In the morning."

"I have to do this", he whispered hoarsely.

"You understand, don't you Fin, why I have to do this?"

"Don't let anyone stop you from being who you need to be."

That was the last time he saw Finlay Tanner

A month later Jake joined him on the other side of the country, after three years of rigorous daily grind in the Army, they both made it through the SAS selection.. Two soldiers who may not share the same blood, but brothers in every sense of the word..

Brothers until the end

Six long grueling years go by

"Six years, Ryan, do you know how hurt I was, each day passing by and not even a note or an email? I didn't just lose you, I lost my brother too, both of you left me, but I was ok with that, I understood that this was what you needed to do, so I moved on."

"I'd have given you my entire heart if only you'd only asked, but you never did, but it's not yours now."

"I have thick skin baby, but your under it, you're buried in so deep it's like I was born with you in my soul, when I'm near you, I'm consumed by you, your smile, your eyes, your heart, you've always been mine."

My breath, My heart, My life.

"I'll love you longer than the stars that live in the sky."

This is the first book I have had the pleasure of reading from this author, and after reading this it won't be my last, so beautifully written!!
